Trained in the UK at schools in London (UCL 2006) and Oxford (Oxford Brookes 2003), James set up Phormd in 2010 having already worked for one of the UKs top practices – Richard Rogers, and a joint practice called LATIS. Whilst there he worked on a variety of projects developing his specialisms in complex geometry, computer modelling tailored together with a constant focus on high end design.
In the time he worked at Richard Rogers, he worked on landmark buildings in the UK and around the world. Working on numerous award-winning schemes from the National Assembly of Wales to the first Maggie’s Centre in London which went on to win the Stirling Prize.
James left RRP in 2004 in order to further his research at The Bartlett, London, but continued to work closely in the industry focusing on competitions, consultancy and teaching at various UK institutions.
Demand for James’s services has been so great that in January 2006 he launched LATIS, a practice based in Marylebone. After running several high end bespoke apartments and houses for artists, including several prestigious projects around the world, James left LATIS in 2010 to set up ‘phormd’. A new venture, enabling him to provide high-quality design solutions and architectural visualisations to a wide range of clients, both in the UK and internationally.
